The great cloister
The great cloister was a burial and procession ground up to the XVIth century.
It was filled in around 1640 to accommodate the erection of a closure wall.
The great cloister then became a large court bordered by buildings such as the infirmery and the foreigners' buildings.
Trees were planted and hence the cloister lost its original function.
The frontages around it have retained the symmetry and linearity of XVIIth and XVIIIth century Classicism.
Today the Great Cloister is a shopping and craftsman mall (for example the stonemason or the bookbinder).
You can also have a sheltered bite under centuries old lime trees.
