Friends of the Antonins
(Les Amis des Antonins)

Friends of the Antonins is an association that offers guided visits of the village, the Abbey Church and its Treasury. Its aim is to inform you about the cultural and architectural heritage of this village. Saint-Antoine was a pilgrim shrine in the Middle Ages and its famous Abbey is one of the brightest jewels of Gothic art in the Dauphiné area. Plunge yourself into centuries of history and explore the impressive collection of objets d'art from the great Order of the Antonines.

The Abbey Honey and Mead Units

We offer guided visits for groups (minimum 8 people) followed by an oppportunity to taste our products. You will learn how the honey is collected, extracted, and conditioned to produce the mead.

The Abbey Honey and Mead Complex

The honey complex is composed of about 300 hives located around the village. The variety and adundance of the flora results in a wide range of honies: colza, acacia, lime, chestnut, sunflower, forst honey... This bee-keeping unit also produces mead, which is one of the oldest alcoholic beverages. It is prepared from a honey and water solution. The mead ferments and is charged in alcohol. For example, after 6 weeks it can attain 16°. Mead can be dry, medium dry or sweet. It is matured in chestnut casks for a number of years (at least three) depending on the honey concentration.

Guided visits for groups all year round. Booking obligatory.
